Find 44°E first by moving right along the bottom of the map, then move up to a point a little below halfway between the 30°N and 35°N lines.
Solución paso a paso
Latitude tells how far north or south a place is; longitude tells how far east or west it is.
Step by step:
- Longitude 44°E: the map's vertical lines are labeled every 10° along the bottom. 44°E is a little less than halfway from the 40°E line to the 50°E line.
- Latitude 32°N: the horizontal lines are labeled every 5° on the left. 32°N is a little below halfway between the 30°N and 35°N lines.
- Where those two readings meet sits marker 4, which lies between two rivers that join before reaching the sea. That is Mesopotamia, "the land between the rivers" (the Tigris and the Euphrates).
- Marker 3 (about 30°N, 31°E) is the right latitude band but far too far west; marker 5 (about 27°N, 68°E) is too far east and too far south.
The correct answer is marker 4.
Tip: always read latitude and longitude separately and say the direction out loud (north/south, east/west). Mixing up the two numbers is the most common map error on the GED.
Paso a paso:
