GED Social Studies Practice Test 5

This practice test is built like the real GED® Social Studies test.

  • 35 questions, 70 minutes, one section. The timer starts when you begin and runs for the whole test.
  • About half of the questions are about civics and government. The rest cover U.S. history, economics, and geography and the world.
  • Most questions are based on a stimulus: a short reading, a historical document, a chart, a table, a timeline or a map. Read the question first, then look for the evidence it asks about. Paragraphs are numbered so you can find them quickly.
  • Question types include multiple choice, select-all-that-apply, drop-down, drag-and-drop, click-on-the-image (hot spot) and fill-in-the-blank.
  • An on-screen calculator is available for the few questions that need arithmetic.
  • There is no penalty for guessing, so answer every question.
  • Use Flag for review to mark a question and come back to it before time runs out.
  • Pace yourself: plan on about 2 minutes per question, and leave a few minutes at the end to review flagged items.

Practice Test 5 is the most challenging test in this set. Many questions ask you to compare two sources or combine a passage with a chart, so read carefully and use every minute.

Time

On the real GED, extra time is given only with an approved accommodation. Practice with the time you will have.
