This full-length practice test is built like the real GED® Reasoning Through Language Arts test. Treat it like test day: find a quiet place, put your phone away, and let the timer run.
- 47 items in three sections, about 150 minutes in total.
- Section 1 — Reading and Language (35 minutes, questions 1–19). Read workplace documents, an informational article, and a historical U.S. document, then answer the questions. Some questions ask you to choose the correct word or sentence from a drop-down menu inside an edited document.
- Section 2 — Extended Response (45 minutes, 1 essay). Read two passages that take opposite positions, then type an essay explaining which position is better supported by evidence. Plan, write, and leave a few minutes to proofread.
- 10-minute break after Section 2.
- Section 3 — Reading and Language (60 minutes, questions 21–47). More passages, including a paired argument, two short stories, and two edited documents with drop-down menus.
- Time does not carry over. Each section has its own timer. Unused minutes from one section are not added to the next, and once a section ends you cannot go back to it.
- Question types include multiple choice, drop-down, drag-and-drop, and select-all. Read each question's directions carefully.
- There is no penalty for guessing. Answer every question. Use Flag for review to mark items you want to revisit before the section timer runs out.
- Tip: read the questions for a passage first, then read the passage looking for the evidence they need.
When the test ends, you'll see your estimated score, an explanation for every item, and the reading and language skills to study next. Good luck!
The timer keeps running if you leave the page, just like on the real test.
